This is a subsidiary site of our main British Army Nurses heritage site. On this site you will find some general tools to help you research British Army nurses, plus some sections that deal with specific time periods.

The general tools include a section on women’s history and the professionalisation of nursing as the development of Army nursing is intertwined with this. There is a section on medal rolls and records as these are often the only source of information on military service. There is a large section on diaries and letters and the issues around using them as a source of information. Lastly, there is a section on using archives such as newspapers, the Census and contemporaneous journals.

We hope that it will of use to both researchers of nursing history and to family historians.

This site is supported by the QARANC Association and managed by the QARANC Association Heritage Committee.

The Association joins together in practical friendship all who are serving or have served in the Corps, irrespective of rank, sharing in its record, its achievements, tradition and history. Our Motto is FRIENDSHIP and we try and maintain that through our branches, which organise functions, and events where members can meet up. In all that we do, our natural willingness to help past and present members stems from the tradition and camaraderie that only Army Service life can instil. Visit the Association site for more information.
